A damning report claims just one 3p per litre rise in April would add a small fortune to the nation’s motoring bill – amid growing concerns about households struggling to get by.
The warning from the Centre for Economics and Business Research follows fresh speculation the Chancellor will increase the hated tax for the first time in seven years in next month’s Budget.
It came as Theresa May’s DUP allies became the latest to urge the Chancellor to freeze or even CUT duty.
Howard Cox – co-founder of motoring lobby group FairFuel UK – said the CEBR’s report was clear evidence a duty hike would hit motorists hard and fuel fears of an economic slowdown.”
