The Centre for Economic and Business Research said the UK would grow slower than expected but remain the world’s sixth-largest economy
Post-Brexit hopes that Britain could grow its economy faster than the rest of Europe will be dashed because of turmoil in Westminster and the need for “much higher taxes”, a leading think-tank has warned.
The Centre for Economic and Business Research (CEBR) said in its annual economic league table that the UK is on course to remain the world’s 6th-largest economy for at least 15 years, having slipped behind India last year.
But the think-tank downgraded the country’s growth forecasts, pointing to the European energy crisis and high inflation – as well as factors specific to Britain.
