Cebr research plays role in justifying Swansea tidal lagoon construction

Today plans for a £1.3bn tidal lagoon in Swansea Bay have been backed by a government-commissioned review.

As part of Swansea Bay’s campaign for government funding, Cebr was commissioned to produce an economic impact assessment of the benefits to the UK economy as a result of the development. The scenario based assessment found that a tidal lagoon electricity generation industry could contribute £27 billion to the UK economy.

The decision followed the findings of an independent report by Charles Hendry which cited Cebr’s estimate that the construction of the six proposed lagoons over the twelve year construction period, would sustain an annual average of 36,000 jobs throughout that time and up to 71,000 jobs at its peak.

News of today’s decision was covered by the BBC, the Guardian, the Financial Times, ITV News, Sky News, Reuters, City AM, Daily Mail and more.
