Cebr celebrates its first 25 years

Cebr opened its doors for business in early 1993 and  tonight we celebrate our first 25 years with a party on HQS Wellington on the Thames for our clients and staff.

To celebrate Cebr’s 25 years of existence, tomorrow we will be publishing a new study of the economics consultancy sector itself, showing that the British spend more on economics consultancy than on the cinema…..

We are very proud of what Cebr has achieved over this period. Our forecasting track record has been consistently amongst the best – the latest analysis published in City AM on 5th  February 2018 claimed ‘Analysis by ETX Capital shows that Morgan Stanley, Capital Economics, Commerzbank, the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), Oxford Economics and PwC have made the most accurate predictions of economic trends’.

We have been especially expert in the understanding of the impact of globalisation and technology. Our founder, Douglas McWilliams was a former chief economist of IBM UK and his M.Phil thesis in 1974 highlighted the early stages of globalisation, analysing the first two electronics factories in the Kuala Lumpur area of Malaysia.

Over these 25 years Cebr has analysed the economic impact of major developments in Canary Wharf, Broadgate, Battersea and the South Bank; worked with Ford, Vauxhall, Mercedes, Porsche, Jaguar Land Rover and developed a highly praised template for the use of electric and autonomous vehicles; estimated the impacts of most new railway and tram extensions in London, Manchester and Birmingham; analysed the impacts of technological changes from broadband and mobile phones though big data and the cloud to blockchain; been praised as the best house price forecaster in the country, worked with all the major retail multiples and become the expert on London, the economy of the City and invented the concept of the ‘Flat White Economy’ – the merge of the creative sector and the tech sector that has transformed East London.

As it starts its 26th year, Cebr is widening its expertise in 2018 with new departments covering transport, international trade and energy.

Douglas McWilliams, Cebr founder, says ‘I had no idea when I started Cebr how it would develop. I am very grateful to our clients and to our staff who have made us the success that we have become.

‘Governments and businesses need to use economics to make better decisions. It is a tribute to Cebr’s success that, uniquely, we have been commissioned by all the key players in the Brexit debate to help them improve their arguments’.
