Cambridge, the city that voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU, will be one of the chief beneficiaries of Brexit a new study has revealed.

More than 73% of people in the Cambridge City Council district voted remain in the EU referendum.

A study by Law firm Irwin Mitchell and the Centre for Economics and Business Research said many parts of the South and East of England have increasing numbers of highly skilled jobs and are in areas benefiting from investment in transport.

The city’s economy is expected to grow by 2% in the months after Brexit, compared with less than 1% in Liverpool and Newcastle.

Josie Dent of the Cebr said: “While the report shows that many cities will face challenges in the aftermath of Britain’s departure from the EU at the end of March, there are also opportunities, especially for cities which are willing to adapt.”

Milton Keynes, which narrowly voted to Leave, is also named as a city that could do well.
