Heathrow Airport is running a trial with Virgin Atlantic to help vaccinated travellers pass through check-in quickly on arrival.
The new scheme means that travellers can present their Covid-19 vaccination proof in either a digital or paper format ahead of arrival, which will allow them to enter the UK safely and quickly. The scheme, which is only open to travellers from certain countries, will deploy fast-track lanes for passengers and aims to demonstrate how vaccination status can be verified for travellers.
It comes as Heathrow bosses say the airport can be at the centre of a £200bn post-Brexit economic boom for the UK.
According to a report from the Centre for Economics & Business Research, non-Eu trade could increase 20% to £570bn by 2025. The figures suggest that the value of trade through Heathrow alone to non-EU countries could increase by 11% in the same time frame, providing a £204bn trade boost for the country.
