Future economic success will depend on a fusion of creativity and technology, according to Cebr Deputy Chairman Douglas McWilliams. 

 

Douglas was speaking at Birbeck College, London’s seminar ‘Trade and Talent – The Brexit Challenge’, supported by the Worshipful Company of World Traders.

 

Douglas said: “Successful economies in the coming years will depend on the continuing fusion of the tech sector and the creative sector, highlighted in my book The Flat White Economy.

 

“For these sectors creativity is their raw material, like coal, iron and steel once were in the Industrial Age.

 

“And all the research shows that migrants are not only spurred to increased creativity by their change in environment but that also they enhance creativity in others by increasing diversity.

 

“Diverse teams consistently perform best at problem solving, by using diverse perspectives.

 

“So it is vital that the UK adopts an outward-looking approach to migration post Brexit.”

 

The purpose of the seminar was to bring together scholars, industry, policy and third sector practitioners to share cutting-edge research and ideas on salient international business topics.

 

The 2018 seminar aimed to stimulate discussion on the roles of Brexit, migration, identity, and talent on global labour in the UK.
